CyberBullying
Now days when you go online you see people taking shots at people like its nothing. But according to government officials schools are aloud to crack down on a student if they are caught with such web pages. But this topic raises a lot of questions of whether or not this is aloud to be done to students. Parents and kids think its ridiculous that people are getting in trouble and getting suspended from school for speaking their mind and expressing the way they feel. What else are they going to do to us, monitor our AIM accounts. In today’s worldschool administrators have been suspending kids from school giving kids criminal records for things they do out of school. This power isn’t right. The way I see it is that if you say or do something out of school, the school has no say in your punishment. But if you do something in school you can be punished by the school and the police. Now school officials have been searching on peoples Facebook accounts and looking for anything they could get their hands on that is offensive to teachers at the school. Schools have no right to monitor things that are not in their power. You can’t be punished for something you do on your own time by your school. Of course if you break the law you will be punished by the law. But the law only the school can’t suspend you for getting into a fight at your house off school grounds. But don’t get me wrong if you do something illegal then you deserve to be punished, but not by your school. What a lot of kids don’t understand is that there is a line that you just don’t cross when you are talking about someone. That line is when you start getting personal about the person talking about how you are going to “kill” them or “hurt” them. That’s just not right. But what many people do is pretty much not offensive but people say things like “Oh man this teacher sucks” or “I hate him/her”. These are harmless phrases that don’t mean anything more than you saying this class sucks or this class is so boring. But once you get personal then you should just stop talking and apologize. When you get to personal and offensive then you run the risk of getting into trouble. But if you do it online the school has no business in suspending you or punishing you unless you do it on school grounds. During a school day you have to be careful about what you say. Things that you may find funny may be offensive to others. If you say something mean about someone and the person is offended and goes down to the office and tells on you, then you are in trouble. Schools do have a right to put a limit on things you can say in school. You can’t be held accountable for just stating your opinion. But if you make things personal and offensive towards the person, such as a racist joke or a joke about their sexuality the school has the right to suspend you or punish you for your offensive slander. A lot of people are against the fact schools are aloud to intervene in a situation on the computer when a student is outside of school. People think its ridiculous that that is aloud. I agree with these people, because what people do in their own time out of school is their own, parent's, and police's concern. So schools should stay clear and mind there own business and do what they are being paid to do....TEACH!!!
